In what is a non-surprise to Knox Animal, the Washington Redskins locked up Albert Haynesworth on a seven-year $100 million contract with a guaranteed $41 million. The deal could exceed $115 million if all incentives are met.Personally I am glad the Redskins did something to address their need at DT, but to pay a guy with injury history that is going to be 28 on opening day $100 million is insane. Haynesworth is one of my favorite players and he even went to my Alma mater, University of Tennessee, but this was risky. If he stays healthy though, and maintains his level of play it will make Redskins owner Daniel Snyder a hero because having the chance to add a stud like Haynesworth to your defensive line doesn't happen very often.
The move the Skins made that I more surprised about is the resigning of cornerback DeAngelo Hall to a six-year $55 million deal with $23 million guaranteed.

I thought for sure that the Skins would have to give up on signing Hall with the addition Haynesworth. This inevitably means the end for Shawn Springs, who will most likely be released unless the Skins elect to trade Carlos Rogers. The better move that makes the most sense would be to part ways with the older Springs.
These are good moves for the Skins to start the offseason. The Redskins have a history of blowing money on high priced free-agents and players, but the important thing for Skins fans to know this time is that they actually addressed a necessesity with the signing of Haynesworth. They finally got somebody in there that can plug the middle. It is up to the Redskins now to make sure his motor is always running and he is committed to making the Redskins a winner. He has proven that he was both in Tennessee with both the Vols and Titans, so don't blow it Redskins coaches because Washington got one step closer to having a really competitive team this upcoming season.
