After seeing I Love You, Man on opening night (3/20/09) and seeing it again last night, I decided to venture into the world of movie reviews. I have read some pretty terrible movie reviews in my lifetime, so I am confident that I can do better than most when it comes to rating a movie. I have also seen some really good movie reviews that have actually persuaded me to see the reviewed movie. Whether I persuade you to see a movie or not is not really my concern, because frankly I don't give a shit what movies you go see in your spare time. What I will do is give you a bad ass, to the point movie review - the only way Knox Animal know how to. So here is my review of I Love You, Man.
I Love You, Man starring Paul Rudd, Jason Segel and Rashida Jones
I saw the previews for this movie a few weeks before its release and I knew that I had to see it on opening night. There aren't many previews that captivate me enough to make me want to deal with the hassle of going to a theater on a movie's release date - but for whatever reason this one did.
Maybe it was the fact that Jason Segal is funny as shit and Paul Rudd is an extremely underrated actor, I don't know, but this movie did not disappoint.
The movie starts with Peter Klavin (Rudd) proposing to his girlfriend Zooey (Jones). As the wedding excitement grows, it becomes apparent that Peter doesn't have any guy friends - creating a problem at the wedding because Zooey has tons of girlfriends to stand behind her at the wedding and Peter doesn't have any.
After going on several man dates, Peter has all but given up on finding a best man for his wedding when Sydney Fife (Segel) pops into his life at Lou Ferrigno's open house. The duo become friends and do all kinds of bad ass stuff that guys like to do, and for the first time in his life, Peter had a friend that was a dude.
In the meantime, Zooey gets pissed because Peter is spending all his time with Syndney. As a result, Zooey leaves and Peter is forced to stop hanging out with his best friend.
When the wedding day came, Zooey knew that Peter really wanted Sydney to be at the wedding, so she calls him and tells him to come. Sydney, who happened to be cruising around on his Vespa in a tux happily arrived at the wedding, where him and Peter were reunited.
Overall this movie was funny as shit. It had the entire theatre laughing throughout the whole movie. Rudd and Segel are kings of the one-liners. Peter's social awkwardness and Sydney's cool guy persona make this one of the best comedies in years. If you don't laugh during this movie there might be something wrong with you.
Knox Animal Rating: 4.5 out of 5
