Boston Red Sox slugger David Ortiz has been in a season long slump. The once feared slugger is now feared by nobody as Papi is only batting .197 with two homeruns - which is hardly impressive.
Ortiz has had his eyes checked because it surely seems that he is not seeing the ball, but could it just be the fact that he is getting old? When you get old, your bat speed slows - it's science. The 33-year old's power surge appears to have ended - at least for the time being.
It is awfully interesting that when Ortiz joined the Red Sox in 2003 after six mediocre years in Minnesota, Big Papi all of sudden became a power hitter. In his six season with the Twins, Ortiz only hit 58 homeruns with his high being 20 in 2002 - his final season in Minnesota. Since then Ortiz has hit 233 homeruns.
Now that the MLB has recently cracked down on steroid offenders, including Red Sox teammate Manny Ramirez, it begs to question the timing of this slump.
