The Tennessee Vols are set to open their first fall practice today. Here is the press release issued by the University:
Tennessee begins the first preseason football camp of the Lane Kiffin era Tuesday afternoon at Haslam Field. Start time is set for 2:45 p.m. Kiffin, who this season becomes only the third head coach at UT in the last 33 years, led the Vols through spring drills and has been on the job for eight months. But the stakes grow considerably larger with the fall camp kickoff coming just a month and a day before the 2009 opener against Western Kentucky.
Four acclimation practices -- one each day this week -- are on tap leading into the team's first workout in full pads Saturday. After hosting the annual media day gathering Sunday afternoon, the Vols have two-a-day practices scheduled for Monday, Wednesday and Friday of next week. Single practices sessions are set for Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday to conclude the second week's slate. The preseason scrimmage schedule has not been announced.
Well, the time is finally here for the pieces of the puzzle to be put together. How will the freshman fare, how are the position battles going, have the quarterbacks improved? All those questions and more will be answered between now and the season opener against Western Kentucky on September, 5. Check back daily for updates regarding the Vols because Knox Animal tells it like it is...
