If Your Best Is Delhomme, You Are In Trouble

Usually when you have thrown a league high 13 interceptions in six games, you don't find yourself with a starting job in the NFL. However, for Jake Delhomme - he remains the number one guy in Carolina.

According to ESPN, Panthers coach John Fox announced after practice Wednesday that he still believes Delhomme gives the Panthers "the best chance to win" and won't bench him for Sunday's game at Arizona, something he contemplated earlier in the week.

Delhomme has committed 15 turnovers while throwing only four touchdown passes in Carolina's 2-4 start this season - not exactly the numbers you would expect from a starting NFL quarterback. But then again, what is Carolina supposed to do? With  A.J. Feeley and Matt Moore serving as the backups, there isn't an urgency to make the quarterback switch.

The Panthers gave Delhomme a five-year contract extension in the offseason and I bet the Panthers are second guessing that big time. He has thrown 18 interceptions in seven games dating to the playoff game last season where he threw five interceptions in a 33-13 loss to the Cardinals. He has a 56.5 passer rating, ranking 32nd in the NFL and with 32 teams in the league, that is pretty damn bad.

So, why not give Feeley or Moore a chance? They can't do any worse than Delhomme is doing this season.
