Zorny Takes On Eagles For Last Time?

After all the speculation about Washington Redskins head coach Jim Zorn being fired, Redskins management said that Zorn will remain the Redskins coach through 2009. Whether that is true or not will be seen, but one thing that is certain is that Zorn will have a lot of pressure to put a good product on the field tonight against the Philadelphia Eagles (3-2).

Zorn was stripped of his play-calling duties this week as Sherm Lewis will direct the offense. Lewis was lured out of retirement two weeks ago to take a job as a consultant, spent 22 years as an assistant but hadn't been in the NFL since 2004. The switch to Lewis as the play-caller came almost immediately following a 14-6 home loss to previously winless Kansas City last Sunday. The irony of this whole thing is that Zorn was basically brought to Washington as the offensive coordinator, based on the fact that he was a good play caller. The Redskins (2-4) are averaging 13.2 points, fourth-fewest in the league - so Zorn's playcalling this season at least has been terrible.

Jason Campbell will remain the starting quarterback despite being pulled last week in favor of Todd Collins. Campbell has struggled this season, but most of that can be put on an old-injured offensive line. Campbell is not talented enough to make things happen on his own, he needs time in the pocket if the Redskins hope to see any offensive success against the Eagles tonight.

The Eagles on the other hand have problems of their own. After a 13-9 loss to Oakland last week, many questions remained unanswered at this point. The wildcat offense has been atrocious for the Eagles, so that experiment has failed. Their best weapon, Bryon Westbrook, isn't getting the touches he needs - so the Eagles play calling is also being questioned at this point.
