Larry Johnson Gives Bengals Insurance

Two teams came to mind as possible destinations for Larry Johnson when he was released - Cincinnati and Oakland. Why these two teams? Well, basically because both seem to ignore all red flags when considering signing a player. So, confirming our suspicions the Cincinnati Bengals decided to give the Kansas City reject an opportunity.

The fit seems ideal for the time being. Starting running back Cedric Benson is having a breakout season, but he is a little banged up right now. Signing Johnson gives solid depth to a Bengals running game that has been very effective this season. Johnson is not expected to come in and steal the show away from Benson, but with him being beaten up and with a long season ahead, the added depth is a smart move. He will most likely be listed as the third string back for the time being.

It looks like a win-win situation for the time-being. Johnson is joining a first-place Bengals team and being a part of a winning franchise may just what Johnson needs to turn his attitude around. The Bengals don't lose much by adding the former All-Pro and if he acts up, cutting him won't be too hard to do.
