Saturday NCAA Football Notes

  • For a player that has battled injuries throughout his career, Tennessee senior defensive lineneman Wes Brown had a senior day moment that he will never forget. Brown intercepted a pass, rumbled toward the endzone, carried a Vanderbilt player on his back and plunged into the endzone for the score. It was a storybook ending for a special Tennessee player that will set the tone at the University of Tennessee for many years to come. UTSports.com writer Drew Edwards wrote a great story about Brown and his final game.
  • LSU head coach Les Miles apparently forgot how to run a two minute drill as the coach let time expire in a 25-23 loss to Ole Miss. The Tigers were divided over what plays to call, lost 17 seconds when the team tried for a timeout and didn't get it, and there was admittedly no backup plan when LSU went for the end zone on the last play of the game and came up short at the Ole Miss 6 with 1 second left. Man, oh man, talk about unprepared. Miles will take a lot of heat for this.

  • Stanford loses and their hope for a PAC-10 title went out the window with a 34-28 overtime loss to Cal. Although senior running back Toby Gerhart continued to prove that he should be a legit Heisman candidate as he rushed for 136 yards and four touchdowns on 20 carries.
  • Charlie Weis has most likely coached his last game in South Bend as the Irish lost 33-30 to UConn in overtime. Weis has a worst record than Tyrone Willingham, so there isn't much that supports his candidacy to stay the ND head coach. Weis, I hate to say it, but its time to pack your bags.
