Is The End Of Twitter, Social Media For Athletes Here?

Twitter started as an innocent service allowing people to post comments, make them searchable and post replies. It has evolved and it has evolved for athletes and celebrities as a way to reach out to the community. The idea sounds great and the popularity has grown.

Sure it's fun to see what Terrell Owens or Chad Ochocinco has to say about whatever is on each of their minds, but then there are the other incidents from athletes such as when Redskins rookie Robert Henson stated his dislike for Redskins fans.

Texas Tech Mike Leach has now banned his players from using Twitter after linebacker Marlon Williams asked on his Twitter account why he was still in a meeting room when "the head coach can't even be on time." That tweet has been deleted and his page also no longer exists.

People may argue that Twitter cannot be banned because of freedom of speech, but they fail to understand that it may just be one of many team rules that players are required to follow. The player can choose to use Twitter, but he or she may be punished as a result of it. Let's not confuse freedom of speech with having consequences for your own actions. If a player said some of these things to the public in an interview, punishments would also be handed down. If you say something on Twitter that you wouldn't say in public, you probably shouldn't be saying it in the first place.

Hawaii's Air Assault Looks To Kill Bulldogs

When discussing Hawaii football, the first thing that comes to mind is the passing game. The Warriors are ranked second in the county in passing yards with 434.7 yards per game. Hawaii averages 515.3 yards per game in total offense - good for 5th in the country. When the Warriors travel to Louisiana Tech tonight to take on the Bulldogs, you can expect there to be: a lot of passing yards, a lot of offense and a lot of points.

Louisiana Tech (1-2) is a four point favorite over Hawaii (2-1). I think Hawaii wins this one straight up and I will tell you why. Warriors quarterback Greg Alexander can throw the ball very well. The senior has thrown for nine touchdowns, two interceptions and has racked up 1,234 yards in the air this season. He not only throws a lot, but he is extremely accurate, compiling a 67 percent completion percentage. Alexander's top target is junior Greg Salas, who has 20 catches on the year for 479 yards and four touchdowns. Look Salas to be very involved in this ball game as Hawaii racks up a ton of points.

Ain't No Rest For The Wicked Fantasy Football Results Week 3

Alright, this is ridiculous. Drew Brees four points? Terrell Owens zero points? Clinton Portis four points? Lee Evans three points? Chris Cooley three points?

All five of those guys were projected to be solid contributors to Knox Animal this season. Aside from Brees and Cooley, who have been solid until last week - the other three are bums. T.O. has yet to find his niche in Buffalo and fellow Bills teammate Lee Evans has been lost in the offense as well. Portis has struggled all season and the injuries are continuing to build up already. After being destroyed for my first loss on the year, it is clear that Knox Animal (1-1-1) needs a roster shake-up. It will happen this coming week as Knox Animal takes on the first place Team Smith (3-0).

So congrats to Knoxville Thunder (2-1), for you have gotten the best of me this week, but team Knox Animal will be back, just wait...

Pennington Expected To Miss The Season

Miami Dolphins quarterback Chad Pennington is expected to miss the remainder of the season with a shoulder injury. Pennington has has been initially diagnosed with a torn capsule in his throwing shoulder, which doesn't sound like a good thing.

Pennington is expected to visit Dr. James Andrews in Alabama to get a second opinion on the shoulder. Andrews performed Pennington's two shoulder surgeries in the past and is a likely candidate to perform this surgery if needed.

The veteran quarterback has had shoulder issues before and each time it has been questioned whether or not he would be able to come back and be the same quarterback he was before the injury. There is no reason to think that it will be any different this time, except for the fact that the 33-year-old Pennington is older this time and he is already on the downside of his career. His arm strength is already in question and the fact that he is most likely going to have a third surgery to that shoulder causes reason for concern. Even though Pennington will come back after this surgery, it will be interesting to see if he has enough left in the tank to maintain a starting job when he returns.

Can Tony Romo Redeem Himself Against The Panthers?

The question on many Dallas Cowboys fans minds is, what the hell is wrong with Tony Romo? He is treated like he is a star NFL quarterback, yet he continues to struggle in big game situations. Romo came into this league as an unknown and he was emerged in stardom. Now it's time for the quarterback to prove he isn't one of the most overrated players in the NFL. He has a chance tonight when the Cowboys take on the Carolina Panthers.

I think Romo gets his act together and helps Dallas (1-1) beat a struggling Panthers (0-2) team. After being embarrassed last week in their first game in their new billion dollar stadium by the New York Giants, Romo and the Cowboys will try get redemption. I expect the Cowboys to regroup and win big to give Dallas fans something to cheer about.

Terrell Owens Calls Rodney Harrison Out

After catching exactly zero balls in today's 27-7 loss to the New Orleans Saints, Buffalo Bills receiver Terrell Owens was sounding off on his Twitter account. Not about his or his teams terrible play, but at former New England Patriots safety Rodney Harrison. Harrison announced his retirement this offseason after a 15-year NFL career.

Owens said: "I could less about Rodney Harrison! Anybody tht using steroids, yes STEROIDS rodney, is a cheater & cheated the game!"

He then said: Is tht Y u used steroids b/c u were worried about ur stats or ws it b/c u were losing it? Lol! U're a loser & a cheater? Got any steroid ...

Then he said: Hey rodney! Send me sum steroids 2 the Bills facility next week!

Now those are some pretty outlandish remarks given Harrison isnt even in the league anymore. T.O. should probably focus a little on doing something to help his team win some games. Bills quarterback Trent Edwards needs to do a better job of targeting its number one receiver, but then again Owens should be concerned about his team winning games - not his individual numbers.

Brady And The Patriots Are No Longer Dominant

Will Tom Brady and the New England Patriots play like a dominant team this week against Atlanta? Or will they show that they have lost a step. Brady looked like crap last week as he was completely shut down by the Jets defense. Randy Moss will look to get open more this week after being basically shut down last week.

Can Washington avoid an upset at Detroit, or will Matthew Stafford and the Lions beat the Redskins and send them back to Washington looking for answers. One thing is for sure - if the Redskins do lose, Zorn should be on the hotseat along with quarterback Jason Campbell. A lot of experts are picking the Lions, so only time will tell what happens.

It should be a good week of football. After going 8-8 last week, Knox Animal's record through Week 2 is 19-13. Here are the Week 3 Sunday Picks:

Knoxville Thunder Please, No Match For Knox Animal

After suffering a tie last week, Knox Animal is looking for revenge against Knoxville Thunder. Should Knox Animal win? Yes. Will the players on Knox Animal live up to their high expectations? That has yet to be seen, because so far this season, they haven't.

QB

With Drew Brees and Tom Brady, Knox Animal should never be outplayed in the quarterback position. However, Brady was horrible last week. Knoxville Thunder will start Tony Romo and Joe Flacco. This should be no contest, big advantage for Knox Animal.

RB

Clinton Portis is a little banged up, so Knox Animal is taking a chance here - unless he is ruled out at the last minute. Steven Jackson needs to have a big week, or he will slowly be classified as a big time bust. Matt Forte and Larry Johnson start for Knoxville Thunder. Forte is very solid and the way the season is going will probably equal what Portis and Jackson do. I give the slight edge to Knoxville Thunder at the running back position.

WR

Knox Animal's weakest position is wide receiver. However, Terrell Owens, Jerricho Cotchery and Lee Evans aren't exactly terrible. With that being said, they are not as good as the Knoxville Thunders wideouts that feature Randy Moss, Larry Fitzgerald and Percy Harvin. Edge to Knoxville Thunder, but look for Knox Animal's receivers to be decent.

TE

Knox Animal has Chris Cooley, Knoxville Thunder has Dallas Clark. Both are their quarterbacks top targets. Clark has a much better quarterback, but Cooley is playing the Lions. Edge to Knox Animal.

D

Knox Animal will start the Jets defense that hasn't allowed a touchdown all year. Knoxville Thunder will start the Giants, who are very solid. I give this a toss up.

K

Ryan Longwell for Knox Animal is one of the better kickers in the league, along with Lawrence Tynes of Knoxville Thunder. This is also a toss up.

Overall, look for the quarterback play of Knox Animal to get them through a tough week against Knoxville Thunder. This may just be a breakout week for Knox Animal.

Can Miami Beat Another Ranked Team?

Through the first three Weeks of the season, the No. 9 ranked Miami Hurricanes are sitting at 2-0. This is remarkable considering they started the season unranked and they were expected to lose their first four games. When Miami beat then ranked No. 18 Florida State to open the season in Week 1, they opened people's eyes. When Miami beat then ranked No. 15 Georgia Tech, people started to believe that Miami is back and once again a team to be feared.

Miami (2-0) continues its season against No. 11 Virginia Tech today at 3:30 p.m. ET. Can Miami continue its early season dominance over ranked opponents? Virginia Tech (2-1) has lost to Alabama, crushed Marshall and barely squeaked by No. 19 Nebraska last week with a end of the game touchdown pass by Tyrod Taylor. On that play, Taylor was given nine seconds to run around in the pocket before connecting with his receiver in the end zone. You can bet that Miami won't give Taylor that much time in the pocket. The Miami defense has played well and look for the Hurricanes to continue their dominance and beat yet another ranked opponent. When this one is over, Miami has to prepare for Oklahoma next week. What a way to start the season.

Missouri and Nevada Could Be A Good Game

Sophomore quarterback Blaine Gabbert leads Missouri into Nevada tonight. Gabbert, who has thrown for eight touchdowns and no interceptions on the season should continue his dominance against an 0-2 Nevada team.

It is no secret that Missouri (3-0) likes to throw the ball as Gabbert has racked up 747 yards in three games this season. The Tigers rank 19th in the country in passing yards per game at 288.3. They will improve that tonight as the Tigers roll in Nevada.

Not to mention, Gabbert has his own personal website that says how awesome he is. How can Nevada beat that?

So If Crabtree Isn't a Diva, Is He An Idiot?

When the San Francisco 49ers selected Texas Tech receiver Michael Crabtree with the 10th overall pick in the 2009 NFL Draft, they were expecting to get a playmaker. They didn't think they would get a guy that refuses to sign a $20 million contract.

Crabtree has been portrayed by the media as a diva and some NFL teams even steered clear of him after combine interviews. That could be why he was the number two receiver taken in the draft even though he was rated as arguably the best overall player available. Despite what his critics think, those close to him know him as a guy that keeps to himself and isn't influenced by anybody. So, it begs the question: what the hell is wrong with this guy?

Texas Tech receivers coach Dennis Simmons describes Crabtree as they type of player that just wants to be on the field according to ESPN.com. If that is true, why is Crabtree leaving a $20 million offer on the table? The answer is simple. He thinks he deserves Top-3 pick money, despite falling in the draft.
The truth is that Crabtree needs to sign with the 49ers. He has until November 17 to sign, or he will be forced into next year's draft. Highly touted college receivers don't have a great track record in the NFL in the first place. So, Crabtree is going to risk sitting out a year and then still expects to be a Top 10 draft pick and get a higher money offer? That just is not going to happen, so if Crabtree isn't a diva - he sure is a freaking moron.

Does Ole Miss Deserve To Be In The Top 5?

The answer to whether or not Ole Miss deserves to be in the top five will be answered tonight as they travel to South Carolina to take on Steve Spurrier and the Gamecocks.

Junior quarterback Jevan Snead leads a 2-0 Rebels team that has notched wins over non-conference opponents Memphis and Southeastern Louisiana. Ole Miss gets its first real test of the season tonight, taking on the 2-1 Gamecocks. This SEC match up will prove two things: Does Ole Miss deserve to be as highly ranked as they are and also is this year's South Carolina team capable of beating some ranked teams this season - specifically SEC opponents.

Snead entered the season as arguably the consensus number two quarterback in the SEC, behind Florida superman Tim Tebow. If you have forgotten, it was Spurrier who voted Snead ahead of Tebow on the All-SEC pre-season ballot, causing a big stir in the SEC media days. Snead has lived up to his hype in the two games this season, throwing for 384 yards and five touchdowns with two interceptions.

South Carolina has beaten NC State and Florida Atlantic and lost to Georgia this season. While NC State and Florida Atlantic are terrible and Georgia is proving to be slightly above average this season, the Gamecocks have played much tougher opponents early on than the Rebels. That may help South Carolina in this one, but it will take more than that to beat a very talented Ole Miss team. SC is led by sophomore quarterback Stephen Garcia, who has thrown for 683 yards and three touchdowns this season. Freshman running back Jarvis Giles leads the team in rushing with 149 yards on 26 carries.

Ole Miss is favored by five points and the over/under is predicted at 54. I don't expect it to be such a high scoring game. Ole Miss should win this game fairly easily if they are as good as they have been ranked, but since this is the first true test of their season, nobody really knows how they will fare. Spurrier has been known to give some teams trouble and he will be ready. However, I don't think his South Carolina team has the firepower to beat one of the SEC's best teams.

Ochocinco Brings Back The List

Chad Ochocinco has brought back the list. The list you might ask? The same list that the Cincinnati Bengals big mouthed receiver has used in previous seasons to mark off opposing corners after he has played them. A football verson of a hitlist so to speak.

Ochocinco said, "This week I have Ike Taylor and William Gay, and I'm looking forward to making them kiss the baby," Ochocinco said confidently according to ESPN.com.

This year's list is titled. "Dulce Venganza", meaning Sweet Revenge in Spanish. Of course Ochocinco would pick a Spanish title since he appears to now speak that language as much as he does English. It's also ironic that the receiver brought the list back in the third week of the season. Why wouldn't he do it in the first week? Maybe because he had such a terrible 2008 season, he wanted to see how things played out before opening his mouth.

There is no denying the fact that Ochocinco is a good receiver. His numbers speak for themselves. However, of course he is going to get the ball - he is the Bengals only legit receiver. T.J. Houshmandezah's departure left Ochocinco as the only real target for quarterback Carson Palmer, so the fact that he is getting the ball isn't a surprise.

Vols Conservative Offense Is No Surprise

For those that are questioning the University of Tennessee's offensive decisions against the Florida Gators last week, I ask of you one question: Why?

Coming off one of the worst offensive seasons in Tennessee Vols history, we entered this season with the same starting quarterback, Jonathan Crompton. While last year's schemes were terrible for many reasons, Crompton struggled. This year, with the hiring of Lane Kiffin and the new coaching staff, the Vols implemented a new system. It's a much more conservative system that has already proven to be more effective than the train wreck last season. However, it is based off the strong running game of the Vols.

After a strong offensive showing against the worst team in Division I football, many people thought the Vols were going to put up those numbers on a weekly basis. Let's face it, that was never going to happen. The Vols ran the same type of game plan against UCLA and the Bruins defense made Crompton look like he had never taken a snap before. Once Kiffin and company saw what kind of quarterback they had playing against a legit D-1 team, the game plan changed. They were going to use the run to pound the ball and wear down defenses.

Kiffin and his coaching staff are smart. They will do whatever they think will help them win. Against Florida, they wanted to limit mistakes and maintain possession of the ball as much as possible. To do that, they needed to limit the mistakes of Crompton and the best way to do that is hand the ball of as much as possible. Senior running back Montario Hardesty had a solid effort on the ground, gaining 96 yards on 20 carries and scoring the Vols only touchdown in the 23-13 defeat.

The Vols currently rank 104th in the Football Bowl Subdivision with an average of 154.3 passing yards per game. They rank 27th in rushing offense, averaging 204 yards per game. The reason for this is obvious - the Vols simply do not have a quarterback capable of putting up better numbers. Crompton now has seven interceptions to only five touchdowns on the season. He has thrown for 419 yards on the season on 45-of-73 passing for a 62 percent completion percentage.

Those numbers alone prove that the Vols strength right now is not in the passing game. The Vols will continue to hand the ball off to Hardesty, who is leading the team in rushing with 356 yards on 64 carries and three touchdowns. Freshmen Bryce Brown and David Oku will also get a lot of opportunities to carry the ball along with sophomore Tauren Poole.

As long as Crompton is on the field, the Vols passing game will continue to struggle. It is unrealistic to think otherwise. For those who are in favor of junior Nick Stephens, I ask you one simple question. If the Vols coaches though he was a better option than Crompton, don't you think they would have made the change already?

Redskins Rookie Robert Henson Is A Dim Wit

Washington Redskins rookie linebacker Robert Henson called the Redskins fans "dim wits" on his Twitter feed after the team barely squeezed by the St. Louis Rams Sunday with a 9-7 win.

Henson tweeted:

"All you fake half hearted Skins fan can.. I won't go there but I dislike you very strongly, don't come to Fed Ex to boo dim wits!!"

He then tweeted:

"The question is who are you to say you know what's best for the team and you work 9 to 5 at Mcdonalds."

Henson, a sixth-round draft pick from TCU, has been inactive for both games this season. He updated his Twitter and Facebook accounts Monday to apologize saying: "not because I'm scared, but just because it was the right thing to do." His twitter account has since been deleted.

Alright, first of all Henson, you called yourself along with the other Redskins players dim wits with the way you phrased your tweet. So that proves that you in fact are a dim wit. Second of all what the hell is wrong with somebody working at McDonalds? It's a respectable company. Third of all, you aren't even playing. You are inactive, so you should keep your mouth shut. Get on the field and prove you are worth the money in your contract. What gives you the right to question what anybody who pays their hard earned money to go watch a subpar performance on the field? The reason the fans booed is because they care. They expect a better performance on the field. It should mean something to the team that its fans care that much. Last thing is who the hell uses the word dim wit?

The Kiffin vs. Meyer Battle Continues

After Florida's win over Tennessee Saturday, Gators coach Urban Meyer said the Vols weren't playing to win, so as any respectable coach would do - Kiffin jabbed back.

The Meyer quote that has earned all the attention is: "They wanted to shorten the game. I remember looking out there and there's 10 minutes left in the game and there's no no-huddle, they are down, I think it was 23-6 and there's no urgency."

Meyer also said that several of his players were experiencing flu-like symptoms in the game - contributing to his team's lackluster showing on the field Saturday.

Kiffin refused to comment directly to the Meyer quote, but stated that he preferred to stick with the running game since the passing game has been struggling. As a result, Montario Hardesty ended up scoring with a 17-yard run on that drive to tighten the deficit 23-13 - where it ended.

Kiffin was then asked if he was worried about the flu also hitting Tennessee, Kiffin responded, "I don't know. I guess we'll wait and after we're not excited about a performance, we'll tell you everybody was sick."

Nice one coach.

A Tie? There Aren't Ties In Fantasy Football!

A tie? Seriously?
Knox Animal and We Three Sons took to the fantasy gridiron in Week 2 and came away with a 98-98 tie. Yes, that's right it was a tie. The only thing that is worse than a tie is a loss and even I had to contemplate which is really worse.
The culprit for the tie rests in the hands of Tom Brady. The former fantasy legend put up only six fantasy points this week as the Jets held Brady out of the endzone for the first time in a long time. The KA running backs, Steven Jackson and Clinton Portis each failed to record touchdowns and the KA receivers continued to struggle. Bernard Berrian just isn't getting the job done and he may have lost his starting gig for the time-being. Terrell Owens held his own with 12 points and Jerricho Cotchery had a respectable eight points. Tight End Chris Cooley continues to play well as he led the 'Skins this week with seven catches for 83 yards - earning 10 fantasy points. Kicker Ryan Longwell continues to put up nice numbers and earned KA 10 points this week. The hero for Week 2 is once again Brew Brees as the quarterback threw for 311 yards and three touchdowns - earning 22 fantasy points.
For My Three Sons, Jake Delhomme decided to actually play decent this week and earned 14 points - a far cry better than his -8 showing in Week 1. Kurt Warner put up his usual solid number, earning MTS 17 fantasy points. Adrian Peterson put up a solid 15 points, but that is a low scoring day for him considering he is the best fantasy player. Receiver Calvin Johnson continued to make a case for being considered a top three fantasy receiver as he earned 14 points as his Lions lost 13-27. Braylon Edwards somehow caught six passes for 97 yards as his Browns lost 6-27 - earning him 11 fantasy points.
Overall, Knox Animal continues to struggle. Even though it is still sitting near the top the leader board with a tie for second place with My Three Sons at 1-0-1, this is not how KA wanted to start the season. The running back play has been terrible, the receivers have been pathetic and if it wasn't for Drew Brees, KA would probably be 0-2 right now. It's time for KA to step its game up in Week 3.

Injuries To Floyd, Grothe Steal NCAA Week 3 Headlines

Just when we thought that Notre Dame had a chance to do some real damage this season, sophomore receiver Michael Floyd got hurt. The 6-foot-3, 220-pound sophomore went into the Michigan State game second in the nation in receiving yards at 160 yards a game. He left the game with a broken collarbone after falling to the ground trying to make a catch in Notre Dame's 33-30 win Saturday.

Floyd underwent surgery to repair the collarbone Sunday and even though he hasn't officially been ruled out for the year, Irish coach Charlie Weis said he doesn't expect him to be back this season. It is a tremendous blow for a Notre Dame team that has established itself as one of the best passing teams in the country. Where as the Irish still have receiver Golden Tate, losing its number one option for Jimmy Clausen will make things tougher for the rest of the way.

Not to mention that Clausen is battling an injury himself as the junior was seen hobbling for the majority of Saturday's game. Clausen toe and an arch injury on his right foot and will undergo an MRI to determine the extent of it. However, it doesn't appear that he will miss any games because of the injury.

South Florida quarterback Matt Grothe will miss the rest of the season after tearing the ACL in his left knee in Saturday's 59-0 win over Charleston Southern. He had started 41 straight games for the Bulls (3-0), who play at No. 18 Florida State this week. He became the Big East's career leader in total offense with 10,875 yards during its Week 2 win at Western Kentucky.

Oklahoma's star tight end Jermaine Gresham hasn't played all season and will miss the remainder of the season with a knee injury. Another All-American tight end will miss the entire season as Arizona's Rob Gronkowski will undergo back surgery to end his campaign. Gronkowski, a junior, was a third-team All-American last season after making 47 catches for 672 yards and 10 touchdowns.
Boise State's leading rusher D.J. Harper will also miss the remainder of the season with a ACL injury. He leads the team with 284 yards and three touchdowns this season and had 12 rushes for 107 yards and a touchdown against Fresno State.

Defected Cuban Pitcher Within Weeks of Becoming MLB Free Agent

Aroldis Chapman, 21, is within weeks of becoming an MLB free agent according to his agent Edwin Mejia.

Chapman is considered one of the top pitching prospects in the world. He is currently living in Andorra, a tiny country in Europe on the border of Spain and France. By not living in America for the time being, Chapman can avoid being in the amateur draft - allowing him to sign with the team of his choosing.

Chapman is expected to draw a lot of interest and look for him to sign with one of the big-money teams such as the Yankees, Red Sox, Angels or Dodgers. According to ESPN.com, The Yankees have already shown interest in the lefty, whose fastball was clocked at 102 miles per hour at the World Baseball Classic this year.

It would be hard to think that Chapman won't be a Yankee, but we will just have to wait and see how this plays out. I suspect that this won't be the last time that we talk about Chapman.

Manning Goes For Franchise Record Tonight

Indianapolis Colts quarterback Peyton Manning will try to win his franchise record 119th win as the Colts travel to take on the Miami Dolphins.

Manning will try to take the record away from legend Johnny Unitas as the Colts attempt to improve its record to 2-0 on the season. Standing in their way is a Dolphins team that is looking to pick up its first win of the season.

The Dolphins feature the over-talked about Wildcat formation. With running back Ronnie Brown, receiver Ted Ginn and rookie quarterback Pat White, Miami has plenty of weapons. The Colts will try to match the Dolphins offense with the passing game featuring one of the game's best receivers in Reggie Wayne. For the Colts to regain its dominance, the running game must again be a factor. Running back Joseph Addai has battled injuries the past few seasons, limiting his production on the field. He appears to be healthy this season, but only rushed for 42 yards on 17 carries last week. Colts rookie Donald Brown rushed for 33 yards on 11 carries last week and will have to be more of a factor in the upcoming weeks.

It's hard to count Manning out in a nationally televised game and I think the Colts will get by the Dolphins.

Vols Didn't Sing Rocky Top, but Didn't Get Embarrassed

When the Vols traveled to the Swamp to take on the Florida Gators yesterday, they were supposed to get their asses handed to them. After Lane Kiffin's comments in his short UT tenure at Florida's expense, the Gators surely were going to make the Vols pay. Experts predicted it, fans thought it, but it didn't happen that way as the Gators beat the Vols 23-13.

Sure, the Gators controlled the game and the mere fact that Vols country is okay with a loss to anybody is shocking, but if you look at the past two years, this year was a step in the right direction. Even though the Vols fell short, they had fight. They didn't give up and they played a complete ball game. If you look at the Vols (1-2) three games this season, the record isn't desirable for Vols fans, but the effort was there. I don't know if you can say that about every game the past few seasons. Even though the Vols are under .500, Kiffin's staff understands how to win. They understand how to motivate and get the players ready for games. Even though this season may prove to be a wash, I wouldn't count the Vols out in a year or so. As this staff continues to influence these young players, the Vols will continue to improve.

Even though a loss is never acceptable in Knoxville, the Vols are moving in the right direction. Tim Tebow ran for 76 yards and a touchdown, but didn't throw a touchdown pass - ending his streak of 30 games with a touchdown pass. After all the talk about what Tebow and the Gators were going to do as a result of all the trash talk, the Vols held their own. Calling this a moral victory for the Vols is idiotic since its a conference game and Tennessee entered the game hoping to win, but the future is bright for the Vols for sure.

Knox Animal Should Smash My Three Sons

After last week's heroic performance from Drew Brees, team Knox Animal was saved and KA became 1-0 on the season. Tom Brady put up solid points, but didn't play particularly well until the fourth quarter. If KA wants to remain unbeaten, it must get great results from those two. To say the Knox Animal running backs and receivers were ineffective last week would be an extreme understatement. Those positions must play better.

My Three Sons has Adrian Peterson, so there will always be solid points from him on a weekly basis. The Eagles D got him 35 points last week, that will not happen this week. Tight End John Carlson earned 23 points last week. I'm not expecting a repeat performance. He lists Jake Delhomme as a starting quarterback, but after a -8 point performance last week, a last minute change might be in order. He has Chad Pennington and Shaun Hill on the bench - not great fantasy options, but they shouldn't ever get negative points.

Overall, this is a very good match up on paper. However, if the slackers on team Knox Animal step up this week, KA should roll and remain unbeaten.

Giants and Cowboys Clash Tonight

Week 2 in the NFL is here and the Knox Animal picks are below. The KA game of the day is the NY Giants at Dallas in the late game tonight. The G-Men are fresh off a beating of the Washington Redskins and the Cowboys beat the Tampa Bay Buccaneers last week. This game has huge implications on the NFC East and will surely give the winner a great jump start. This should be a fun one to watch.

Kiffin, Crompton Prepare To Get Ass Kicked

Tim Tebow and the No. 1 ranked Florida Gators host the very average Tennessee Vols today. By now we have all heard about the what Vols first year coach Lane Kiffin has said about Florida. Unlucky for him, the Gators have not forgotten those comments and will be sure to show Kiffin's Vols that they have not.

Vols senior quarterback Jonathan Crompton will try to do the unthinkable and win against the Gators. However, Crompton couldn't win against UCLA as he turned into an absolute headcase and threw three interceptions in defeat. If Crompton struggled that much last week, its unlikely to think he will do any better against a Gators defense that returned all 11 of its starters from a year ago.

Boise State Needs To Be In A Real Conference

The question is not when will Boise State lose a conference game, the question is when will Boise State move to a real conference.

Let's face it, the WAC is not a football power conference. However, it contains a Boise State team that is very good. Boise State travels to Fresno State and will undoubtedly come away with another fairly easy win. Boise State will roll through the season and most likely finish undefeated. If that happens, they will end up in the BCS National Championship game. Some believe that is ridiculous to think that this is a possibility because of their weak conference schedule. If a "real" conference school goes undefeated, they will surely be ahead of Boise State at season's end, but the odds of an SEC school going undefeated aren't very good.

If Boise thinks that they are one of the best teams in the country, they should work on joining one of the best conferences in the country. It is absurd to classify Boise State as one of the best teams in the country if they play scrubs all season.

What's In Theaters September 18?

Thinking about going to the movies this weekend? Here's what's new in theaters September 18.

Jennifer's Body

Megan Fox is back on the big screen as she stars in this horror flick. She plays a newly possessed cheerleader that turns into a killer who specializes in offing her male classmates. Any movie with Fox warrants a couple viewings, so this will be seen by me for sure.

Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs

The most delicious event since macaroni met cheese. Inspired by the beloved children's book, the film focuses on a town where food falls from the sky like rain. Obviously a kid's movie, so I probably won't see this movie since I lack kids.

The Informant!

The U.S. government decides to go after an agri-business giant with a price-fixing accusation, based on the evidence submitted by their star witness, vice president turned informant Mark Whitacre. Matt Damon stars in what could be a very good movie. The previews look good, and this movie is getting a lot of hype. It should warrant a viewing for sure.

Love Happens

About a widower whose book about coping with loss turns him into a best-selling self-help guru. On a business trip to Seattle, he falls for a woman who attends one of his seminars, only to learn that he hasn't yet truly confronted his wife's passing. Another Jennifer Aniston movie and another chick flick. This will serve as the best date movie for the week, so if you are looking for one of those, here it is.

Hurricanes Ready To Destroy Georgia Tech

Alright, is Miami actually for real this year, or are they just pulling some early magic this season? After shocking then ranked No. 18 Florida State to open the season, Miami finds itself as the No. 20 team in the country. We find out this week if they are deserving of that ranking as Hurricanes host No. 14 Georgia Tech tonight.

Georgia Tech squeezed by Clemson last Thursday 30-27. Lucky or good, has yet to be determined when talking about the Yellow Jackets, but one thing for certain is that they are 2-0.

Georgia Tech has won four straight in the series and making it a fifth will be difficult. Miami's speed and defense will give Miami an edge. Oddsmakers have the Hurricanes by 5 1/2 and I agree. Miami is at home and let's face it, Georgia Tech has looked terrible the last two weeks. This will be the week that they lose and Miami will once again be considered a feared team.

Kiffin, Vols Turn Focus To Gators

With the terrible 19-15 loss to UCLA a half week ago, the Vols should now be well focused on their task at hand. That being how to handle the nation's No. 1 ranked Florida Gators.

It's a task that will not be easy and basically a task that most have already written off the Vols and marked it an automatic loss. With the lousy quarterback play of Jonathan Crompton last week, those who thought the Vols had a chance this upcoming week, now are shifting their opinions.

After the Vols Week 1 63-7 demolishing of the pitiful Western Kentucky team, the Vols got a dose of reality from UCLA. A year ago UCLA was the beginning of the end for the Vols, it's only a matter of time to see how the Vols will respond from the loss this year. With Fulmer gone last year, Kiffin has taken the reigns in stride. Florida fans haven't forgotten Kiffin's first press conference after being hired when he said that he was going to be singing Rocky Top all night long after beating the Gators in the Swamp. Tennessee fans have not forgotten that either, so Kiffin has his work cut out for him.

The Vols are 1-1 and they do not want to be 1-2. However, beating the nation's best team in the Swamp is not an easy task at all. Kiffin needs to prepare his young team like they have never been prepped for a game before if the Vols want to even compete with the Gators. If not, Kiffin is going to look like one of the biggest idiots in college football as his team will fall under .500 to 1-2.

Ain't No Rest For The Wicked - Week 1 Results

As predicted, Knox Animal was victorious in its week 1 match-up against We The Best 109 - 95. Poor play from the KA receivers and running backs made it much closer than it should have been, but the quarterback play of Drew Brees and Tom Brady carried KA in Week 1.

Knox Animal (1-0) will need to get better production from the running backs and receivers going forward or it will be a long season. Steven Jackson, Clinton Portis, Terrell Owens, Lee Evans, Bernard Berrian and Eddie Royal need to prove that they are worthy to be on team Knox Animal.

Brady, Tomlinson Ready To Get 2009 Rolling

It's redemption time for Tom Brady and the New England Patriots. For the last five years, no team has been more hated than the Patriots. With the loss of quarterback Brady on the first drive of the season last year, New England's chance of winning the Super Bowl ended along with Brady's season with a knee injury.

Brady is back and is ready to redeem himself. It all starts tonight as the Patriots host Terrell Owens and the Buffalo Bills. Let's face it, the Bills suck. The Patriots are good, so they should roll - barring another serious injury to one of the team's stars. The dynamic duo of Brady to Randy Moss should be revived once again and look for New England to regain its NFL dominance and once again be a very hated team.

In the other game tonight, San Diego travels to Oakland. Look for the Chargers to beat the hell out of the dysfunctional Raiders. LaDainian Tomlinson is back and ready to prove he is still one of the league's best backs. Oakland has plenty of talent, but the lack of structure will prove to be deadly to their chances of being successful this season. The Chargers should roll in this one and Tomlinson should have a big night as the Chargers try to prove that they are one of the best teams in the NFL.

Toledo Has A Football Team?

It's Friday night lights college edition as Colorado travels to Toledo. Both teams are 0-1 and both teams are not very good. One team will remain winless and the other will get its first win of the 2009 season.

Colorado lost its opener to in-state rival Colorado State 23-17. Toledo lost to Purdue 52-31 in its first game.

Let's face it, both teams suck. Having said that, one of these teams has to win. Toledo likes to throw the ball a lot. In its opener, senior quarterback Aaron Opelt threw the ball 67 times and completed 41 of them for 423 yards and three touchdowns. Colorado is led by junior Cody Hawkins, who completed 24-of-40 passes for 222 yards and one touchdown against Colorado State.

Both teams will air it out, but the question is which team will turn the ball over less. The team with the fewest mistakes will win this game. I'm going to go with Colorado in this one. They let me down in week one, but it's hard for me to imagine them losing to Toledo. If Toledo beats Colorado, head coach Dan Hawkins should be on the hot seat. It will be up to his son Cody, to make sure that doesn't happen.

What's In Theaters This Week?

Curious as to what movies are in theaters this week? Look no further, Knox Animal has you covered.

9

Even though this movie came out Wednesday in some theaters, I didn't feel the need to update everybody of this. This Tim Burton movie titled 9 takes place in a world parallel to our own, in which the very legacy of humanity is threatened. A group of sapient rag dolls, living a post-apocalyptic existence find one of their own, 9 (Elijah Wood), who displays leadership qualities that may help them to survive. This sounds like it could be pretty cool based on its weirdness. After writing this, I admit that I am kind of intrigued.

I Can Do Bad All By Myself

Here we have another Tyler Perry Madea movie. If you haven't seen any of these movies, you probably should because they aren't bad. There is humor involved and they are relatively entertaining. In this installment, Madea catches sixteen-year-old Jennifer and her two younger brothers looting her home. She decides to take matters into her own hands and delivers the young delinquents to the only relative they have: their aunt April.

Sorority Row

A group of sorority sisters try to cover up the death of their house-sister after a prank gone wrong, only to be stalked by a serial killer. This sounds like a good synopsis, but we all know that this movie will suck. At least there will be plenty of hot girls in it.

Whiteout

U.S. Marshal Carrie Stetko (Kate Beckinsale) tracks a killer in Antarctica, as the sun is about to set for six months. Apparently in Antarctica, the sun sets during the winter and it really sucks. Stetko seems like she has a hell of a hard time tracking this killer. Sounds like it could be good.

Titans and Steelers Get 2009 NFL Season Rolling

The time is here. The pre-season is over and it is time for real football. It's Week 1 in the NFL and the Tennessee Titans travel to Pittsburgh to take on the defending Super Bowl champion Steelers.
The Vegas line is Pittsburgh by 6. I tend to lean that way based on them being the home team. It's hard for me to imagine Titans quarterback Kerry Collins to replicate the season he had a year ago. The loss of DT Albert Haynesworth is huge for them. They no longer have the dominant defensive line they had with the 350-pound Haynesworth in there. Look for Pittsburgh to pound and wear down the Titans defensive line with Rashard Mendenhall and Willie Parker. The running game will open up big plays downfield for Ben Roethlisberger and the Steelers receivers.

The Titans will try to run the ball the whole night, but the Steelers defense is too tough to allow too many big plays. They will pressure Collins into bad decisions and the Steelers shouldn't have too much trouble winning this one.

Can Clemson Knock Off No. 15 Georgia Tech?

Both Clemson and Georgia Tech are 1-0. Both are in the ACC. Both teams will be looking to get to 2-0 tonight, but only one can.

Georgia Tech was supposed to be one of the top teams in the ACC, but a mediocre showing in Week 1 against Jacksonville State may have proved that they were severely overrated. The Yellow Jackets fumbled five times and dropped several passes, making them look like they shouldn't even be ranked in the Top 25. However, they are and they will try to make up for their poor showing with a win over ACC foe Clemson.

Clemson comes to Bobby Dodd Stadium after defeating Middle Tennessee 37-14 in its opener Saturday. Tigers star running back C.J. Spiller should be healthy enough to carry the load tonight, but only time will tell. Spiller returned the opening kickoff 97 yards for a touchdown in Week 1, but injured his hamstring on the play and sat the remainder of the game. If Spiller plays, and is effective, the Tigers have a great chance at an upset. If Spiller is unable to play or unable to play at 100 percent, the Tigers will not win.

I am banking on Spiller not only playing, but Spiller playing well. With that said, I am taking Clemson with an upset over No. 15 Georgia Tech.

Ain't No Rest For The Wicked - Week 1 Fantasy Preview

Knox Animal has been eagerly anticipating the start of the NFL season. Not only does this mark the beginning of what should be a great 2009 season, it also marks the start to a great 2009 fantasy football season. Knox Animal's team is primed and ready to go and the first victim on the schedule is going to be Black Hole We The Best.

Despite the lame name chosen by my opponent, his team is fairly decent. Decent enough to beat me, probably not - but he will be in the running for second place the entire season.

Below is the matchup:

QB (2 starters)

Knox Animal

QB Drew Brees
QB Tom Brady

Black Hole We The Best

QB Aaron Rodgers
QB Carson Palmer

I give the edge in this battle to Knox Animal. With Brees and Brady, KA has the two biggest threats at the position on the same team. That is one of the best quarterback duo's the fantasy world has ever seen.

RB (2 starters)

Knox Animal

RB Steven Jackson
RB Clinton Portis

Black Hole We The Best

RB Frank Gore
RB Chris Johnson

The RB committee for each team are strong. I give this a push. Jackson should have a big week, but so should Gore. Portis is banged up a little bit, so you never know what you are going to get from him. Johnson will be sharing carries with LenDale White, so unless Johnson breaks a long touchdown run, he might not have a big fantasy day. However, if he does break some long scoring runs, he will have a monster fantasy day. The potential is there for both sides at the running back position, so it's a push.

WR (3 starters)

Knox Animal

WR Terrell Owens
WR Bernard Berrian
WR Eddie Royal

Black Hole We The Best

WR Roddy White
WR T.J. Houshmandzadeh
WR Marques Colston

Even though Knox Animal feels strong about his receivers, the edge at this position goes to Black Hole We The Best. White, Housh and Colston are fantasy machines. If they get the touches, they will put up monster numbers. The key however is that all of their quarterbacks are proven. Knox Animal's receivers have Trent Edwards, Brett Favre and Kyle Orton throwing them the ball - not exactly top fantasy quarterbacks.

TE (1 starter)
Knox Animal

TE Chris Cooley

Black Hole We The Best

TE Jeremy Shockey

Both of these tight ends have potential for big games, but they both can also be kept out of the end zone. I give this position a push.

Defense (1 team)
Knox Animal

D New York Jets

Black Hole We The Best

D Pittsburgh Steelers

Black Hole We The Best gets the edge in this position by a longshot. The Steelers have the best defense in the league hands down.

Kicker (1 player)
Knox Animal

K Ryan Longwell

Black Hole We The Best

K Mason Crosby

This category comes down to who is going to score the most points in the game. Longwell's Vikings play the Browns whereas Crosby's Packers play the Bears. It looks like Longwell is going to have a lot more opportunities in the game, so the edge goes to Knox Animal.

Overall, this matchup should be close. It could go either way, but the quarterback play for Knox Animal should pave the way for KA. This one should be high scoring and KA should come out on top.

Is Florida State Really Good Again?

Florida State football was once considered a top five program in college football. Then they fell off the face of the earth and became very average. Ranked No. 18 to start the 2009 season, expectations are for the Seminoles to not only contend for an ACC title, but to once again become one of the top teams in the country.

Bobby Bowden is back on the sidelines for his 34th season at Florida State. Many believe that the 79-year-old coach can't coach anymore, but he begs to differ and he will try to prove that as his Seminoles take on the Miami Hurricanes tonight.

Florida State finished last season with a 9-4 record and defeated Wisconsin 42-13 in the Champs Sports Bowl - giving FSU 27 consecutive bowl appearances, the longest streak in the nation.

Miami posted a 7-6 record last season and they will look to improve. This is the perfect opportunity for the Hurricanes to make a statement, because it doesn't get easier for Miami the next few weeks. Miami hosts No. 15 Georgia Tech, then travels to No. 7 Virginia Tech and then hosts third-ranked Oklahoma at home, giving the Hurricanes four games with ranked opponents to start the season. I know Miami doesn't want to start the campaign 0-4, but it's going to be a tough road to avoid such a feat.

Will No. 8 Mississippi Blow It At Memphis?

With the NFL season one week away, the NCAA has you covered on Sunday this week. With three games to keep you entertained, football fans can keep the ball rolling for the fourth straight day of gridiron action.

Today's games are highlighted by the Colorado State at Colorado matchup tonight. Colorado junior quarterback Cody Hawkins, son of coach Dan Hawkins, will try to lead his team to a win over interstate rival CSU. Cody Hawkins is coming off a 2008 season where he threw for 1,872 yards and 17 touchdown passes. He will need to be better this year if the Buffaloes want to be better than their 5-7 record of a year ago.

Also, today No. 8 Mississippi travels to Memphis to take on the Tigers. On paper this shouldn't be much of a test for Ole Miss and their stud junior quarterback Jevan Snead, but you never know how the high powered Rebels offense will look at the onset of this season. Memphis is the 16-point underdog in this one, but they could be setup nicely for an upset. However, I don't think it will happen. Snead, who threw for 2,762 yards and 26 touchdowns last season will guide the Rebels to a fairly easy win.

Crompton, Vols Make Big Statement

One of the big questions today for the University of Tennessee was surrounding the quarterback play of starter Jonathan Crompton.

Crompton showed up today and put together a solid game, going 21-28 for 233 yards and five touchdowns in leading the Vols to a 63-7 win over Western Kentucky. Yes WKU is in its first season of Division I football and they were terrible, but nonetheless, the Vols came out to play.

Crompton did throw two interceptions, both on tipped passes, but the improvement from a year ago is the difference between night and day. The senior had the confidence needed to deliver passes and lead a college football team and the rest of the Vols fed off that.

Senior back Montario Hardesty ran the ball for 160 yards on 18 carries and freshman Bryce Brown had 104 yards on 11 carries. Each had one touchdown. Freshman David Oku also showed some play making abilities as he had 42 yards on eight carries and two touchdowns. Sophomore Tauren Poole also got into the mix by running for 62 yards on five carries, including a 34-yarder.

Freshman receiver Marsalis Teague caught a team-high eight passes for 86 yards and a touchdown. Tight end Luke Stocker had two touchdown receptions while Brandon Warren and Quentin Hancock also had touchdown catches.

Tennessee did have three turnovers, the two picks by Crompton and a fumble by Hardesty and if the Vols want to survive against real teams, those are mistakes that cannot be made. Overall, for a first game, this was a very impressive showing all around. The defense played extremely well, holding WKU to nine total yards of offense in the first half and 83 in the game. All in all, WKU is really bad, but the Vols still did what they needed to do. The play calling was far superior to the past few seasons.

In a day, a lot of questions were answered. We know that Crompton has adjusted to the play calling of the new offense. We know that the running game looks to be improved from a year ago. We know that the defense is for real. We know that the intensity is there. However, WKU sucks big time, so until the Vols prove themselves against UCLA next week and Florida the following week, I will reserve my overall judgement of this team. What I will say though is that this team is very improved from a year ago. They will be competitive and the mood around Tennessee football is very positive. That alone is reason to celebrate if you are a Vols fan.
