Today's workout was very average for my standards. My energy level was low and I just wasn't into it. Even though I am not happy with the workout, I still managed to get in abs, bent rows, push press, upright rows, barbell shrugs, wide-grip lat pulldowns, dumbbell curls and hammer curls.
I weighed in today at 275.4 pounds, so it's good to see I am back on track with the weight loss. I lowered my caloric intake to 2,800-3,000 this week and it seems to be a good target area. I will continue that and see how much I lose this upcoming week to really tell if it's a good range or not. The goal is one to two pounds a week, with two pounds being the absolute maximum.
Thank God that it's the weekend, so that means two good days of rest. I am actually a little sore from my workout today, so I know it was a good workout - just a few exercises short of my standard. The goal next week is to regain that focus and tear it up on each workout day.

My Journey: Day 115
There is no better feeling than absolutely destroying legs mid week. Today's workout was brutal and it was awesome. I did my typical seven exercise leg workout, and I am very happy with how these workouts have been going. I have made great gains with this workout and I this will continue to be the way I workout legs as long as I am progressing. Check out the tracker below for workout details.

Starting The Week Off Right
Day 113
I cannot stress how important it is to get the week started right. I don't know about you guys, but when I have a plan at the beginning of the week, it is much easier for me to stay focused. The goal this morning was to hit the chest and triceps hard. I had a good workout and I even had a little extra time to squeeze in a little cardio after.
I had a good weekend and didn't track my food intake. I didn't necessarily pig out or anything, but I ate every meal out and it was hard to track food that I didn't make. I didn't eat any fast food and I still stuck to my eating window. I know I went over 3,000 calories both Saturday and Sunday, but not by too much. I am dropping my calories this week to 2,800 to 3,000 each day to see how that effects my plateau I have seen on the scale the last couple of weeks. Keep working hard everybody.

My Journey: Day 112
I hope everybody had a great Easter weekend. Mine was action packed with a lot of good food, Stone Temple Pilots concert and gambling. With all that fun aside, it's time to get back to work this week. I may drop the calories a bit this week to make up for the moderate overeating this weekend, but I'm not sure yet. If I do drop the calories, it won't be any less than 2,800 for sure.
On the agenda for tomorrow is chest/triceps. I really want to kill my triceps tomorrow because I don't think they have gotten really pushed in a while.

My Journey: Day 111
I allowed myself a cheat day today. I planned on not counting calories, but that didn't mean I sat around and ate all day. We traveled to Cherokee, NC to go see Stone Temple Pilots and we had dinner reservations at Paula Deen's restaurant inside Harrah's Casino. I wasn't even going to try and calculate how that food fit into my macros. I just made sure to eat high in protein throughout the day and I plan on going back to the 3,000 calories tomorrow. It's no big deal and I am a fan of giving yourself a splurge day every couple of weeks.

My Journey: Day 110
I decided to take the day off from work today, but that didn't mean I wasn't going to the gym as planned. It's Friday, so that means it was time to blast back/shoulders/biceps. Overall, it was a good workout and I hit one PR on the Push Press. I also did a drop set on Barbell Shrugs and that might be something I decide to do with every shoulder workout.
Friday also means weigh in day and today I tipped the scale at 278 today. It's about the same as last week, but I feel and look leaner than I did a week ago. Like I have stressed on several occasions that it isn't all about what the scale says. I have stuck to my diet pretty well and I have busted my ass in the gym. I am getting results and that is what it is all about.

I'm feeling the effects of yesterday's legs workout pretty good today. I like that feeling, but it's good that I give myself a day off between workouts. With the intensity and volume of each workout, rest is a very good thing.
I did some light stretching after work today to get my body ready for my back/shoulders/biceps workout tomorrow. It's going to be brutal. It's going to be painful. It's going to be fun.

Train While Others Are Asleep
It was a stormy morning in Knoxville, but that didn't matter. Some people would probably crawl back into bead and skip their early morning workout, but I am not one of those people. Weakness and quit is not in my vocabulary. It was time to bust some ass and go to work on my wheels.
I am happy with the progress I have made on my legs, but I am nowhere near satisfied. After having neglected them for so long, I have a few years of making up to do. Each and every workout is brutal - I wouldn't have it any other way.

American Idol Review: Wednesday, April 20
With seven remaining it's songs from the 21st Century - here's how it went down:
Scotty McCreery - Swingin by LeAnne Rimes
Now that the other contestants pointed it out, he does hold the microphone weird as hell. Oh well, it adds character. With all that aside, this performance was not one of his better ones. It wasn't a great song choice for him and it came across very boring.
James Durbin - Uprising by Muse
Let me first say how awesome it is to hear a Muse song on American Idol. I loved it. Everything about it was awesome. He nailed the song, the marching band was cool as hell, and he was able to put his own spin on it. Well done James, well done.
Haley Reinhart - Rolling In The Deep by Adele
This was a great song choice from Haley. She sang it very well and she was able to have the emotional connection necessary to pull off a song like this. This was definitely one of her best, if not the best performance she has had on the show so far.
Jacob Lusk - Dance With My Father
This was another good week for Jacob, however I feel like this song might be a little slow and boring to compete with some of the other performances of the night. There is no doubt that Jacob has the talent to sing music like this, but I just don't know how much American Idol fans will appreciate a performance like this. He did a great job and he definitely was able to connect with the song. It will be interesting to see if the voters understand that or not.
Casey Abrams - Harder To Breathe by Maroon 5
I was a little worried when I heard that he was performing a Maroon 5 song because I'm not a fan of their current stuff. Even though it's a weird song choice, he chose their best song, so I forgave him. He did a good job overall, but it wasn't good enough to win my favorite performance of the night. However, I always anticipate seeing what Casey is going to do each week and that is how you know that you are a good artist.
Stefano Langone -Closer by Ne-Yo
I don't know about this performance at all. It wasn't that it was bad, but compared to the others - it wasn't up to the caliber of the rest of the competition. It's like the old saying "It's time to separate the men from the boys" - well, Stefano was separated.
Lauren Alaina -Born To Fly by Sara Evans
This was a really good song choice for Lauren. She sang it well and it fit her. I cannot stress how important song choice is for these contestants and I think Lauren did a good job tonight.

My Journey: Day 107
It's was an off-day from the gym today, so I spent the day resting to get ready for my brutal legs workout tomorrow morning.
It has been a couple months since I started my three-day workout split and I can honestly say that I like it. Right now it give me a good balance of being at home with my two-month year old son and in the gym early three days a week. I may eventually change it up, but right now, it's perfect. The three days that I am in the gym, I am able to bust my ass and get in great workouts and that's what it's all about.

My Journey: Day 106
Your only limits are self-imposed.
There is nothing like waking up Monday morning after a great weekend. The anticipation of the work week looms ahead, but the thought of busting your ass in the gym to get the week started makes it all okay. There is a great reward in going to the gym and giving it your all before the sun comes up.
Heading into the gym this morning, I was thinking about changing my workout up a little bit. I am always looking for new ways to shake things up and today I decided to add overhead rope triceps extensions to the mix. It was second to last exercise, so I got a nice pump going. In addition to that addition, my focus is always to improve on lifts. Today's focus was on dumbbell incline press and I hit a personal record on the third set. My training is all about hitting PR's because that is the only way I know that I am pushing myself to be better.
I finished my weight training today in about an hour, so with a couple minutes to spare I went over to the treadmill and walked for 10 minutes.
I went over on my calories this weekend and was under my targeted protein goal yesterday, so I want to make sure I spend an extra time focusing on staying around 3,000, while hitting my macros each day this week. This is the most important aspect right now in my journey, so I need to make sure I nail it.

My Journey: Day 105
After a good weekend of rest, I'm ready to get back to the gym. I had a great week of workouts last week, so the goal is to keep building on those and keep improving. It's all about busting ass and improving. Rest time is over, and it's time to get back to business tomorrow morning with chest/triceps. I may shake things up with my workout tomorrow, but we'll see. Stay tuned because I feel some PR's this week.

My Journey: Day 104
Today was a legit off day. For the first time in a while, my biceps are sore and that is pretty cool to know that my workout yesterday was intense enough to make this happen. There is nothing like feeling sore from a good workout.
We grilled out some burgers today with some good friends and had a great Saturday. There is nothing like good food, friends and relaxing. I hope everybody is having a great weekend!

My Journey: Day 103
Today's back/shoulders/biceps workout was absolute madness. It was one of those workouts that you never wanted to be finished. I was in the absolute zone. I love days like today.
It's Friday, so it's weigh-in day. I tipped the scale today at 278 lbs., which is three pounds heavier than last week. Judging from the mirror and how I feel, I wouldn't have guessed that I gained weight this week, so I'm not too worried. My diet has been good, and I have been making solid gains in the gym. I trust how I feel and how I look in the mirror over a scale any day anyways.

After yesterday's leg workout, my legs felt pumped all day today. I had a great workout yesterday, so it was nice to feel the benefit an extra day. I had been doing some ab work on my off-days, but starting this week, I added abs to the beginning of each workout. This gives me a true off-day and makes my desire to hit the gym even greater on my workout days. I cannot wait for tomorrow's back/shoulders/biceps workout.

Who Went Home
Paul got the least amount of votes and is headed home tonight. His performance last night was weak, so I am not shocked by this news. He was my favorite contestant throughout the competition, but this proves that you need to bring your best every night. This week was just not good and he paid the price. I still think he is the best natural performer in the competition and I have no doubt that he has a bright future in the music business. I look forward to seeing what he does in the future.

American Idol Review: Wednesday, April 13
It's songs from movies week, so this should be a pretty good week. Here's how it went down:
Paul McDonald - Old Time Rock and Roll by Bob Seger
I am a huge Paul fan, but this was not very good. His dancing was awkward and frankly I think it was a terrible song choice for him. The entire performance was awkward. I'm afraid Paul is in some serious trouble this week.Lauren Alaina - The Climb by Miley Cyrus
It's funny because Lauren sang this song better than Miley sings it. That's embarrassing for Miley. I think this was the perfect song for Lauren to choose. It's all about connecting to the audience and with the surplus of young voters, this was a good song choice. This was a strong performance from Lauren tonight.
Stefano Langone - End Of The Road by Boyz II Men
This was very good. Stefano gave it his all and really nailed it. He showed emotion and he really connected this week. This might have been my favorite Stefano performance of the season. Talk about a bounce back. He was horrible last week, but he made up for it with this performance. After being in the bottom three for a few weeks, let's just hope he has the fan support to keep him around.
Scotty McCreery - Across My Heart by George Strait
This was a pretty typical Scotty performance. It was a safe country song that Scotty sang really well. It isn't the kind of performance that I will say is great though. This is probably fine now, but Scotty is going to need to step it up a notch if he wants to win this competition.
Casey Abrams - Nature Boy by Nat King Cole
When I heard that he was thinking about doing In The Air Tonight by Phil Collins, I was pumped. I don't know how I feel about Nature Boy, but he did it well. I didn't like how it started out, but it did get better as it progressed. I got to give it to Casey for sticking to his guns and doing what he felt comfortable performing. Casey has the ability to embrace who he is each week and you got to love that about him. He is a true artist.
Haley Reinhart - Call Me by Blondie
This was a pretty decent rendition of this song, however that isn't saying much. This is very much a chorus driven karaoke song and it is really hard to pick a song like this to show off your vocals. Haley has a good performance quality about her, but the vocals weren't the best. It started a little rough for me, but it got better as the song went on. Haley is good, but she has to bring it every week - I'm not sure she did this week.
Jacob Lusk - Bridge Over Troubled Water by Simon & Garfunkel
This was a great song for Jacob to sing. He has a great gospel sound to him and this song definitely showcased that. This was solid.
James Durbin - Heavy Metal by Sammy Hagar
I have a certain respect for 80's rock. It's different hearing this kind of music on Idol and I respect James for making this happen. You can always count on James to give it his all and that is a great quality for a performer and contestant to have.

My Journey: Day 100
It's been 100 days since my Journey started. I am pleased with the progress I have made along the way, but it is nowhere near over. My Journey is going to be something that I carry on forever. It isn't a phase, it's a lifestyle.
I started out doing pretty much a whole day diet where I would aim for 300 grams of protein and try not to go over 3,200 calories for the day. As My Journey has progressed, I have learned that I should be eating less on my off days so I bumped it down to around 2,800 to 3,000 calories for my off days. In addition to that realization, I have picked up on the Lean Gains method of Intermittent Fasting. With this method, my eating window is 12:00 p.m. - 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. and I have upped my fats to around 100g per day. Using the ideology of If It Fits Your Macros, I have eaten a lot of foods I love, making this a great way to look at eating. I will most likely keep up this way of eating forever because it is easy and it makes sense.

My Journey Day 98
Sundays are always a great day of relaxing and preparation for the upcoming week. I did my typical Sam's Club and grocery store trip to get food and necessities for the upcoming week. We ran a couple other errands and relaxed. I capped the day off with an awesome filet, asparagus, twice baked potato, corn on the cob and strawberry shortcake meal.
Tomorrow I'm destroying chest and triceps.

My Journey: Day 97
We went up to my parents house last night and stayed pretty much the whole day today. Since I didn't work out yesterday, I had to make up my shoulders/back/biceps workout. I was away from the gym and my garage, but I was able to get a good workout in at my parents house. They have a pretty good gym in their house that includes a bike, elliptical, treadmill, stepper, a couple ab machines and a home gym called the Inspire M2.
I got in a good workout with the M2. It was a little different than my typical workouts, but it was a nice change of pace. I did shoulder press, one arm lateral raises, upright rows, lat pulldowns, mid rows and cable curls.

My Journey: Day 96
I decided to let my wife catch up on some sleep last night and I took full baby duty. As a result, I was nowhere near ready to workout before work this morning. It's not a problem because I am going to workout back/shoulders/biceps tomorrow instead. The flexibility of a three-day split has been incredible. It's definitely a big advantage over the five or six day splits I have done in the past.
It's Friday, so it's weigh in day. I hit the scale at 275 lbs. this morning. I was down a couple pounds from last week, so that's good. I feel like I have been making better decisions, but I have also eaten plenty of food that I love. I am a firm believer of the IIFYM (If It Fits Your Macros) method. It's a much better way of eating in comparison to depriving yourself from the foods you love.

Major League Baseball announced the move in a statement on Friday.
"Major League Baseball recently notified Manny Ramirez of an issue under Major League Baseball's Joint Drug Prevention and Treatment Program," the statement said. "Rather than continue with the process under the Program, Ramirez has informed MLB that he is retiring as an active player. If Ramirez seeks reinstatement in the future, the process under the Drug Program will be completed. MLB will not have any further comment on this matter."

My Journey: Day 95
Each day I am feeling a little better about my progress. I still have a way to go, but I am pleased with how things are progressing. I haven't had fast food in over a month and a half and that alone has been one of the best things I have done on this journey. I have been making smarter decisions when eating out and I have been eating well when I am home. I still eat the foods I like, but make sure that I am still hitting my targeted macros. That has been the biggest key.

Who Went Home
Pia was sent packing tonight and I love it! Let's face it. The girl can sing, but she is boring as hell as a performer. She needs to improve her stage presence if she wants to continue with the music career. There is no question that she has the talent as a singer, but she needs to loosen up if she ever wants to connect to the audience. In a competition where there are so many talented musicians, Pia was just boring.Who Should Have Gone Home
I'm not disappointed with Pia going home.

My Journey: Day 94
Back to the gym in the early a.m. today for leg day. It was a decent workout, but I was much happier with the workout I had last week. I don't know if it was the allergies, or what - but I just wasn't as pumped as I usually am for this workout. I struggled through it and still got a good workout in though. I wanted to really focus on the front squat machine today and make sure I was going deep. I really wanted to push my quads and made that happen today.
As for the allergies, I believe I may have found the key to keeping them under control. I picked up a Neti Pot last night and it cleared my sinuses instantly. Yes, the allergies eventually came back and clogged me up again, but I did it again this morning and it cleared my nose out again. The box came with 50 packets, so I'm going to use it for a month and see how I feel about it at the end. But, as of right now, I am impressed.

American Idol Review: Wednesday, April 6
Songs from the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. This night should be good. Here's how it went down:
This is truly my favorite Michael Jackson song. This is one of the best song's in music history. Jacob absolutely kicked ass tonight. This was the first time this season that Jacob has really impressed me outside of Hollywood week. This was his element and he was simply awesome tonight.
Haley Reinhart: Piece of My Heart by Janis Joplin
I'm not feeling the arrangement too much, but Haley was pretty good. She has the power to sing a song like this, but the arrangement was a bit too poppy for such a powerful song like this. Overall, it was a good performance, but it could have been a lot better with a better arrangement.
Casey Abrams: Have You Ever Seen The Rain by CCR
He brought the upright bass back! I have been waiting for this since the first time I saw him with it. Casey feels very comfortable playing his bass and it shows. Ever since he was almost kicked off the show, he has been in the zone. Casey is gonna be tough to beat.
Lauren Alaina: Natural Woman by Aretha Franklin
When I first heard that Lauren was going to be singing this song, I immediately thought it was a good choice for her. She didn't let me down. She was in control during the entire song and for a 16-year-old she showed a lot of maturity.
James Durbin: While My Guitar Gently Weeps by George Harrison
I was very pleased to hear that James was going to slow it down a bit tonight. This proves that James has great vocal abilities and I couldn't have thought of a more perfect song for him to showcase his vocals than this one.
Scotty McCreery: That's Alright Mama by Elvis Presley
This was a little different version of Scotty tonight. Scotty was embracing the rock and roll week by toning his country down a little bit. He is an admitted Elvis fan and he did The King justice. Scotty had incredible stage presence tonight and his popularity seems to keep growing. This could be the American Idol this season.
Pia Toscano: River Deep, Mountain High by Tina Turner
She has a really good voice and there is no denying that. She can sing anything really well. This week she picked a song where it forced her to show some emotion. I liked it more than I liked her last couple performances for sure. It was good.
Stefano Langone: When A Man Loves A Woman by Percy Sledge
This song didn't start off so well for me. It picked up a little bit as it went along and continued to get better until the end. This wasn't a bad performance by any means, but compared to everybody else tonight, this just isn't on the same level despite what Jennifer Lopez says.
Paul McDonald: Folsom Prison Blues by Johnny Cash
I really liked Paul this week. I thought this was a great overall performance. This wasn't the first time I have really liked a Paul performance either. From vocals to performance Paul nailed it and I don't know if there is a better true performer in this competition. Paul kicked some serious ass tonight.

NCAA Men's Hoops Season Over: Did anybody predict UConn?
The 2010-2011 NCAA Hoops season officially came to an end last night as UConn beat Butler 53-41. The game was ugly and it was a shame a great tournament had to end like that, but that's the way it is sometimes.
Overall, I would give this NCAA tournament and A+ based on upsets and excitement throughout the whole thing. The title game was terrible, but the fact that Butler was even in the game proves that the tournament was one of the most memorable ones in history.

My Journey: Day 92
I woke up this morning and my allergies had overtaken me. I couldn't breathe out my nose and my eyes were swollen. I opted to sleep a couple more hours and workout after work. I was still able to get a good chest/triceps workout in at my house, so it wasn't that big of a deal.
I hope the allergies get better soon because not being able to breath sucks.

My Journey: Day 91
Today was an off day. I did the usual Sunday ritual with Sam's Club. I got whey, chicken, baby greens and baby spinach and called it a day. For dinner tonight, we went to a friend's house and grilled out. It was a good time and a good way to end the week. This is going to be a busy week, but I'm looking forward to it.

My Journey: Day 90
It's allergy season and it seems like they are kicking my ass worse than ever. Let's hope this Clariton D kicks in before they get any worse. It seems like they come back worse every year, so I don't even want to think about how bad they are going to be once I get old.
Like most Saturday's, this one was spent with family. We went to Dead End BBQ, one of my favorite restaurants, and ate some awesome food. BBQ Chicken Nachos, Pulled Pork, Pulled Chicken, Mayor's Beans and Red, White and Bleu Slaw. It was as good as always.

My Journey: Day 89
Up at 5:00 a.m. on the dot. It's become standard operating procedure this year. It's work before work, and it's brutal. Some people ask why I do it and others ask why I put it out on the internet for everybody to see. The reason is because I have goals and I want to be held accountable for those goals. I'm in pursuit of something that I have been trying to achieve my whole life. It's My Journey.
Fridays are my weigh in days. I weighed in at 277.4 lbs. after today's workout. Down two pounds from last week, so it was a good week. Even more impressive is that I feel better this week and I can definitely see improvements starting to happen. All this tells me is that I am on the right track and I have got to keep working hard.
Today's workout was a brutal ten-set, back/shoulders/biceps massacre. See the details at the workout tracker below.
