Eli Manning Proves He Belongs
Before the season started, New York Giants quarterback Eli Manning had a bold prediction to make regarding his placement among the NFL's elite quarterbacks. Manning simply stated that he was not a 25 interception quarterback like he showed he was in 2010 and that he was indeed one of the league's top five quarterbacks.
I actually agreed with Manning in backing him as one of the top five quarterbacks in the league. It wasn't hard for me to believe it then and it's even easier to believe it now as Manning won his second Super Bowl ring last night with a 21-17 win over the New England Patriots.
Helping Manning to one of his best years as a pro was a emerging group of receivers. Victor Cruz, Hakeem Nicks and Mario Manning proved that they are among the best group of receivers in the league this season. With these three receiver in tact, it is not crazy to think that Manning will continue the success he had this season for as long as these guys are playing for the Giants.
Statistically Manning had a great year in 2011. He threw for 4,933 yards, 29 touchdowns to 16 interceptions. Sure, Manning could have cut down on some of his interceptions, but give the guy a break - he just won the Super Bowl.
