Manny Is Back

Manny Ramirez is back in pro baseball after signing a $500k deal with the Oakland Athletics. Ramirez will report to spring training, but must serve a 50 game suspension for a second positive performance enhancing drug test. Even with the suspension, the Athletics are getting a bargain.

Ramirez may not be the player he was when he was younger, but there is still something special about the 39-year-old slugger. The question is how invested will Ramirez be in the Athletics? If Oakland is able to get any production out of Ramirez, it will be worth it. There is still pop in his bat and for half a million, it is a risk that the Athletics were willing to take.

Ramirez currently ranks 14th on the career homerun list with 555. He is a career .312 hitter and has knocked in 1,831 RBIs in his career.
