LaRon Landry Signs With Jets

Former Washington safety LaRon Landry signed a one-year, $4 million deal with the New York Jets. The former Redskin ruffled many feathers when he went against team doctors advice to have surgery to repair his achilles tendon that had been troubling him all of last season. When it was apparent that Landry was not going to go through with the surgery, it was clear that the Redskins no longer had a place for him on their roster. It is obvious that the Jets are a little cautious as well by the length of the contract offered.

It truly was a shame that it ended this way for Landry in Washington. The former first round pick showed a lot of promise at times. As a strong safety, he was frequently involved in brutal hits. He was a safety that many teams feared - when he was playing. The trouble was that he was injured a lot. The fact that he refused to listen to the advice of the team that drafted him and groomed him was troublesome. Why he wouldn't have surgery to help him out in the long term is going to always baffle me.

If Landry can somehow stay healthy for the Jets, he could become a great signing. If Landry gets hurt once again, he will become one of those athletes that failed to live up to their full potential.
