Why Matt Forte Should Be Pissed

It doesn't take a genius to figure out that the way the Chicago Bears are handling their star running back is just not smart. Matt Forte has been one of the league's premier backs the past two seasons. With other star's around the league getting paid big bucks, the Bears for whatever reason are not investing the money in Forte. Instead each season, the Bears have invested good money in a backup for Forte.

Having just signed free-agent and former Oakland Raider Michael Bush to a deal, the trend seems to be continuing in Chicago. The Beards have signed Kevin Jones, Chester Taylor and Marion Barber since Forte has been in the league.

Last season, Forte wanted a contract and it never got done. Sure, he could have held out, but he didn't want to do that. All Forte wants to do is play football. Yes, getting paid is a part of that, but he was willing to put that aside to have a great season and expect a deal to get done before the 2012 season.

There is a good chance the Forte will hold out this season until a deal is done. Even though that is probably the last thing Forte wants to do, I can't blame him. He deserves to get paid and Chicago should be the team to dish out the money. Instead of signing free-agents, they should take care of what is in house first - especially the best player on the field.
