Dawkins Retires, Was Great

Despite being a Washington Redskins fan, I am able to set aside my loyalties to give thanks and praise when it is deserved - even if it is to a member of a team that rivaled the Redskins for a decade. Former Philadelphia Eagle and most recently Denver Bronos safety, Brian Dawkins was a great player for 16 NFL seasons.

After suffering a serious neck injury late last season, the 38 year-old is calling it a career. What a career it was. For as many years as I can remember, Dawkins was patrolling the secondary, wreaking havoc on opponents both through the passing and running games. Dawkins was a player, and he played the game hard. Dawkins was a nine-time Pro-Bowler.

He most certainly will be a Hall of Famer... If not, something is seriously wrong.
