Willis Walks Out On Orioles AAA Squad

A once promising arm is now just trying to find a place on a team. Dontrelle Willis, who won the 2003 Rookie of the Year award with the Florida Marlins has seen his career take a turn for the worse since then. Signed as a reliever, Willis was reportedly unhappy with his role and has left the Orioles' Triple-A Norfolk team without permission and is at least temporarily on the restricted list according to sources.

The Orioles confirmed that they had no intention of releasing Willis and they do want him to remain a member of the squad. This is interesting news because the Orioles only have one left hander in the big league bullpen. With a stacked left handed American League East lineup, the Orioles will be looking for left-handed bullpen help as the season progresses.

From what I hear, the Orioles simply wanted to get Willis some innings under his belt before evaluating him enough to get him to the big league squad. However, the initial agreement of being a reliever wasn't mutual apparently as Willis was hoping to impress enough to become a starter once again.
