Wizards Trade Makes Sense

The Washington Wizards haven't given me too much to talk about as of late. That is until now. The Wizards made a move that truly makes sense as they were able to unload forward Rashard Lewis to the New Orleans Hornets in exchange for Emeka Okafor and Trevor Ariza.

Both players come to the Wizards as defensive specialists, an area Washington needed to improve. In addition to adding two lockdown defenders, the Wizards were able to rid themselves of the overpriced Lewis. Lewis was in the final year of a six-year, $112 million contract. This season Lewis is only guaranteed a little under $14 million of the possible $22 million left in the contract. With as much as Lewis has been injured the past few seasons, it would be hard to see him making more than the minimum owed to him.

This move is a A+ for the Wizards. Okafor and Ariza are both solid players that will bring a lot to Washington. With the number three overall pick in the draft, the Wizards are poised to bring in another playmaker, giving Washington a solid core of players to make a playoff push next season.

  1. I'm wondering if either player will be a starter for the Wizards?

  2. I could see each being spot starters, but don't see them starting on a regular basis. They should both get good minutes off the bench.

  3. As a Wizard's season ticket holder I really like the trade. I also like the idea of keeping Randy Whitman as coach. These thigs along with the trade for NeNe and the third and thirty-second picks in the upcoming draft give Wizard's fans something to look forward to.

    1. I couldn't agree more with you. The Wizards are finally starting to piece together a good team. I am looking forward to seeing what they do in the draft.

  4. If they amnesty Blatch, do they have money left for one good free agent? If so, which position would they look to fill? WF or WG?

    1. I don't see them making any more moves right now. I think with the draft coming up, they will add another solid player or two to continue building a nucleus for success.

  5. I asked because it seems as though they need a shooter at WG as well as WF. There seems to be a better selection of free agent WG than WF the next year or two.
