GoVolsXtra. After a press conference with head coach Derek Dooley today, it doesn't look like Rogers will return to the team.
This news is surprising because from what we have been told, Rogers has been stellar in camp this year. His head was on right, and it appeared that Rogers had fully bought into the Vols football program. While it is very unclear at this time what the violation of team rules was, it sure looks bad. With the season opener against NC State eight days away, this is not what Dooley wants to focus on.
Now the Vols have to move on without Rogers. Even though Rogers is a great receiver, the Vols have other players on the depth chart that are capable of stepping up and filling the void. Justin Hunter is returning this season after missing the majority of the season last year with a knee injury. JUCO incomer Cordarrelle Patterson is expected to replace Rogers in the starting lineup. Even though Patterson hasn't played a down in the SEC, big things are expected from him.
