For as long as I can remember, somebody has been upset with the name of the Washington Redskins. Off and on throughout the years there has been talk of a name change. According to a report on ESPN, a member of the Washington D.C. Council said he plans to submit a resolution calling for the Redskins to change their nickname because it is "racist and derogatory" and "it's time to make a change."
As part of the report, David Grosso, also provided the suggestion of "Redtails" in honor of the Tuskegee Airmen. He went on to say that basically the name is close enough, that nothing will change, including the beloved fight song, "Hail to the Redskins", which could easily be replaced with "Hail to the Redtails."
In addition to this, there have been a couple of attempts to get the Redskins to change their name. After appeals from the team and time in the legal system nothing has been done to this point. I expect a similar situation to happen here.
The Washington Redskins were established in 1932. I don't expect them to give in and change their name very easily. Especially if they are presented with terrible suggestions like "Redtails".
