The Baltimore Orioles claimed outfielder Michael Morse off trade waivers and acquired him in a deal for minor league outfielder Xavier Avery.
The Orioles were looking for a right handed bat to put into a lefty dominant lineup, and they apparently found what they were looking for in Morse. The slugger has been battling injuries this season and is having a down year compared to the monster season he posted last year with the Washington Nationals.
Morse is batting .226 with 13 homeruns and 27 RBIs this season in 307 plate appearances. Modest numbers compared to the .303 average, 31 homeruns and 95 RBIs he posted last year in Washington. Nonetheless, Morse has right-handed power to help the Orioles make a run at the playoffs.
