Homeruns from Robinson Cano, Alex Rodriguez and Curtis Granderson propelled the New York Yankees to a 5-4 win against the Baltimore Orioles Wednesday night in Baltimore. The Orioles owned a 3-1 lead after four innings, but fifth and sixth inning homeruns from Granderson and Rodriguez tied the game at 3-3. Cano broke the tie in the ninth with a homerun to center. Lyle Overbay drove in Granderson, who tripled, with an infield single to give the Yankees a 5-3 lead heading into the bottom of the ninth. The Orioles were able to score one, but fell short on the comeback.
The loss drops the Orioles (77-68) to 11 games back in the East and 1.5 games back in the Wild Card race. The win moves the Yankees (78-68) ahead of the Orioles, 1 game back in the Wild Card and 10.5 back in the AL East.
