Cavs Sign Wiggins, End All Rumors Of Wiggins Being Traded For Now
Will the rumors of Cleveland trading their top draft pick, Andrew Wiggins, please end now. The Cavaliers signed Wiggins, ensuring that he cannot be traded for 30 days. So even though Wiggins cannot be traded now, it doesn't mean that the Cavs won't wait to make a deal in a month.
Wiggins continues to be the Cavs biggest bargaining chip when it comes to the Kevin Love sweepstakes. As long as Love is being dangled out there by Minnesota, there is always a chance Wiggins could be included in part of a blockbuster deal.
To me it would be stupid to trade Wiggins. Here you have a rookie that can learn a great deal from playing with LeBron James. Sure, it would be great to have Love on the roster alongside James, but think of the upside you could have with Wiggins latching on to every bit of teaching James can offer. Alongside Kyrie Irving and James, Wiggins could blossom into a great player that compliments both of those All-Stars. Love is already an All-Star and already is used to being the guy. Cleveland does't need anymore number one scorers and instead needs a big body down low that will grab boards and defend. While Love is a great rebounder, his defense is suspect at best. Keeping the duo of Tristan Thompson and Anderson Varejao at the four and five and Wiggins at the two is a much smarter way to go in my opinion.
I'm not saying Love is not a great player because he is. I'm also not saying that Love wouldn't be a great addition to Cleveland because he would be. I am just saying that getting rid of Wiggins as well as a handful of other players for Love is a much bigger risk than keeping this team in tact.
